Driver benefits
There is a
popular misconception that driving hybrid, plug-in
hybrid and electric vehicles involves a sacrifice for
the driver. In fact the opposite can be true. They can
give a better driving experience than conventionally
powered cars.
It is a
fact that unless coerced, people will not act against
their own self interest. Hybrid, plug-in and electric cars have to
offer a better value proposition to be successful. The
inherent benefits include faster acceleration, quieter
operation, lower fuel costs, greater convenience, less
"environmental guilt" and new electronic systems that
will give more comfort and improved safety.
Such benefits could further enhanced if the EU and governments
cut VAT and provided greater incentives to address
the premium in the cost of the initial purchase. The
logic for encouraging individual purchases is that not
only do they contribute to meeting environmental targets
but contribute to other major government objectives such
as defence and economic performance.
